Forest Management
In 1999 Center Parcs UK was awarded the Chartered Landscape Institute's Award for Management for their Forest Management Plans – Action for Biodiversity. The Center Parcs Forest Management Plans have gained much acclaim from the Landscape Institute:
“Center Parcs landscape management plan is a fully co-ordinated, integrated, dynamic, enlightened and workable document”
“The significance of the Center Parcs forest management plans is that they demonstrate the need for a dynamic approach”.
Each of Center Parcs' UK Villages has its own individual Forest Management Plan which is reviewed and updated every 5 years to take into account the health and vitality of the forest.
The plan reinforces the integration between Center Parcs' landscape management objectives, those of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and the local Biodiversity Action Plan in a framework of sustainable forestry.
The Forest Management Plan and its periodic review form an integral part of the ISO 14001, Environmental Management System. The objective of the Forest Management Plans is to create and maintain a natural forest environment for guests and wildlife alike. Action for biodiversity conservation in the Village is designed and implemented through both forest and ecological monitoring reports, translated into day-to-day actions via work programmes and Standards of Performance.
The Forest Management Plan ties Center Parcs into a Corporate Biodiversity Action Initiative. This initiative has been developed in partnership with English Nature and other local groups and organisations. It also supports the “UK Forest Partnership for Action” to promote sustainable development within the forestry and tourism sectors.
Additionally, The Plan has been independently inspected and evaluated according to strict environmental, social and economic principles and criteria as agreed by the Forest Stewardship Council. Each village is independently audited against United Kingdom Woodland Assurance Standard, which is recognised by the Forest Stewardship Council as the FSC (UK) standard. Each village is a member of the Independent Forestry Group Certification scheme and share the same group number: SA-FM/CoC-1352.
